::1st day at SR! :)::

Today was my 1st official working day at SR..from 12-5pm! :) Waitressing is really one of the most stressful jobs, especially during dining peak hours like 12-1pm (lunch), 3-4pm (teabreak). Especially when we wish we could simply split ourselves up..take orders, serve food, attend to patrons' nonsensical stuffs about their fussy kids..Having more people doesn't exactly help as it gets more confusing, especially when wrong orders are taken. I'm still trying hard to remember the weird table arrangement and sequence order. :/ Thankfully, there were many around to guide me...and I actually met my ex-schoolmates there! What a small world...

The supervisor seemed to be pissed with 1 of the waiters who seemed to be holding the menus inappropriately all the time. There's 1 particular outlet supervisor who doesn't smile at all. I observed him for 5 hours and he didn't smile!

I was pacing up and down the stretch of aisle...looking at the choc banana cakes, mocha walnut cakes, choc oreo and that black forest cake wistfully. Not to mention that this Caucasian lady commented that the cakes were simply finger-licking delicious! Ahh..mixed feelings. So near yet so far..??

Initially, I was trying very hard to handle more crockery at one time...and there was a constant nagging in my mind.."Don't break them..Don't break them.." LOL! I guess in no time, I would be able to master the art of balancing many plates and bowls at one time. =)

There were 4 groups of people that I remember in particular: (all of them waved goodbye happily to me. hah. I was appalled.)
1. 2 Caucasian women who said:"Young lady, the cheesecakes are pretty and yummy and u've been very nice." (warm smile :D)
2. A teenage boy, upon finishing his fish and chips, dipped his hands into the tomato sauce and scribbled: "I love tomatoes!" on the empty plate.
3. A group of giggly schoolgirls who were so stingy with their money (those were the days...), divided the 3 brownies and cakes equally (cm by cm) amongst them. I must really commend them for their accuracy and for being so meticulous..
4. 2 Caucasian men who chose to sit right at the spot where sunlight was streaming in very brightly, through the glass panes on top.
ME: Sir, would u like to shift over to another table? I'm afraid it may be a little hot and uncomfortable for u at this area.
THEM: No thanks. We enjoy sun-tanning at this location.
me: ...

Of course..there were the nasty ones (fortunately, these people don't form the bulk of the patrons of SR). Extremely fussy and picky diners who seem to enjoy creating troubles. They ask so MUCH questions that u feel like saying:"Does asking so much make u full? Why don't u talk less and eat more?" (oops) There were rowdy children who kept running around (especially during peak hours). We fear for their safety and of course, our bowls. It's becoming so much more natural...to smile..and smile and smile.

The most amusing thing is observing how patrons "signal" to us when they are ready to place their orders.
a) The nicer ones: (in an audible yet polite manner)"Excuse me, can you take my order?"
b) The nice ones: (raises his hand and smiles excitedly just like school kids waiting fervently for the teacher to pick on him)
c) The fairly nice ones: (closes menu, looks left and right...everywhere)
d) The not-so-nice ones: (comes up to u in an intimidating manner)and oh-oh.
e) The absolutely disgusting ones: (fumes unnecessarily)"Excuse me, this is ridiculous! We are kept waiting for so long. It's not that I want to complain but this is totally disgusting. I WANT to see your manager."
(I witnessed incident E happening to 1 of the crew..utterly disgusting woman who's only been kept waiting for a short time.)

I guess the most enticing thing about working there is that there's staff discount for food purchased! Heh. Now that's something for Father's Day. =)
