::Family Day with YFSC~::
" The family centre was abuzz with activity at 9am as participants of the Family Day began streaming in. Enthusiastic volunteers took charge and started off the whole event with registration and administration details, followed by allocation of groups and the distribution of the beautifully-packaged goody bags! The 2 buses chartered were packed like sardines, a clear indication of the enthusiasm of the participants. And off the buses went, heading to East Coast Park, the ultimate destination of fun! Amidst the hustle and bustle, another group of volunteers were already kept busy huffing and puffing numerous balloons at one of the shelters in East Coast Park, in preparations for the decorations and telematches later on. Everyone gathered for a briefing session by Alex and the volunteers once again, began organizing their group members, in a bid to ensure that they were in good hands while some began their preparations for the station games. Meanwhile, a few grandparents began laying their ground mats whilst looking after the young toddlers and admiring the scenic view simultaneously. Young and old alike, the participants were filled with excitement as they listened attentively to the Station Masters’ briefing for the respective telematches. Volunteers tried their utmost to present clear instructions and answer their queries in all aspects of the games. The notion that safety came before fun was repeatedly emphasized. The telematches finally kicked off with a huge bang at around 10.30am as different coloured groups proceeded with station games like “Step All You Can” in which participants had to step and burst balloons within a certain boundary, “White Face” where they had to blow out ping pong balls from bowls of flour, “Together We Go-stan” as each pair huddled close together to ensure that the balloons were safely tucked in, “Skipping Game” where participants exhaust themselves through skipping as many times as possible within a limited time, "Forward Together" where legs were tied together and participants had to incorporate pair work to reach the finishing line. Definitely it seems, the 5 station games required maximum teamwork and cooperation within the family itself. On the other hand, it fostered bonding among families as others cheered along while the games commenced. Meanwhile, the assigned photographer cum volunteer snapped photos of participants gleefully enjoying their games. After the energy-exhausting activities, the much-awaited lunchtime came at 12pm sharp! The appetizing set lunches with sumptuous dishes further filled everyone with hunger. Free and easy time came as families were given the freedom to roam around the park, facilitating bonding and interactions among families and within families as well. The Sing-Along Session came as the children and parents volunteered to sing their favourite songs. Spirits were high as the volunteers proceeded to garner everyone to sing the ever-so familiar “Top of the World” and “Stand By Me”. The whole atmosphere was filled with warmth and joy as everyone started clapping in a rhythmic manner. Following up was the most-anticipated event of the day. Prize Presentation! The 5 hampers filled with attractive prizes were the centers of attraction. The top 5 winners were announced upon another close fight among the ties through stepping balloons with 1 foot! Participants cheered on and gave supportive applauses time and time again. The whole event finally ended with everyone feeling tired physically, yet a sense of satisfaction mentally. Kudos to all the volunteers! Family Day 2005 will be back!"
