::Community chest.. =)::
Heya! Went for Community Chest CIP Donation Drive @ Taka Box today with Erene, Geisha, Mighty mouse, low, yiwen. J Hehe..it was quite fun. Especially when the “live” snow shows were fully under our control. Heh…we adjusted the size of the snowflakes for amusement sake, mainly to attract the crowd and get them to donate while taking photographs of “Singapore snowing” . ah..so fake.hehe. Nevertheless, all of us were filled with immense joy as we see Singaporeans immersing themselves in the foam bubbles spouting out from some inconspicuous flower petals. =)
We took shifts to stand in at the Taka Box to enjoy the air-con..wahaha.. and to control the snowflakes too.Yeah.. my attempts were quite successful.Think the whole donation drive was truly fun…especially going around asking people for donations. Hehe..the best approach is to lure cute children with our “snowman” and “xmas tree” pins and their parents will donate in return. Feedback from kids: Santa Claus pins are more appealing. Oh…discovered that large families are easy targets. Women dolled up fancifully are a huge NO-NO. Haha...Oh yah…thought it was quite stingy of the guy to actually refuse donation in front of his girl-friend. Ah..what does that show? Don’t marry this kind of miser! Hehe. Oh..I approached many ice-cream men and received huge disparity in responses…There was one that ended up talking to me about politics..oh..slamming the government in broad daylight. Another was truly empathic and appeared to have melted upon hearing about kids with cerebral palsy who truly needed these donations to make a difference to their lives. Oh yah..I must say that maids who were given a day off on Hari Raya to roam the streets of Orchard were the most compassionate! Yup…especially those with a male counterpart beside them. Hehe..maybe it’s years of growing attachment to little children that tugged at their heartstrings. Amidst the process of the donation drive…admired the xmas light-up along the whole stretch of Orchard…the buskers…the rock-climbing stunts…Hop on to the Hippo bus kinda thing. Hmm…absolutely loved the gigantic Christmas trees at the Paragon and near the MRT station. Heh..this kind of CIP that brings joy to people is definitely more worthwhile than flag day.
All right…here’s some “tips” not to get rejected at donation drives. =P
(1) Always put on a megawatt smile. No matter how distasteful they look. It does brighten up their day.
(2) Be courteous. Politeness and good manners are most appreciated. Even if they showed disinterest, thank them. That’s basic courtesy.
(3) Refrain from approaching intimidating people. By that, I mean smokers, teenagers with streaks of highlighted hair , burly men, foreigners (especially Germans!)
(4) Be very sincere. Yup. If they displayed willingness to listen to your rambles, interest them and evoke their sympathy by talking about the less fortunate people and that any donation they contribute is significant. It’s best if you have a pair of eyes that speak volumes.hehe.
(5) Approach easy targets like little children who would most probably be attracted by the cute little gifts you have for them. Parents will immediately donate.
