Heh! Finally watched a movie after such a looong time! Yup! Went to watch "Charlie and the chocolate factory" with WX at Causeway Point's Cathay on National Day Eve. Man..that place was totally packed and swarmed with "reds and whites". For a moment, I thought I was colour blind. Heh. Tickets were selling like hot cakes and were fast selling out. This movie is strongly recommended to those who: 1) have been terribly stressed up by mugging. 2) have strong emotionally pent-up feelings waiting to be unleashed. 3) would like to rekindle their childhood flame. 4) have lost the child-like nature in them. 5) simply adores Johnny Depp and of course, enjoys children classics. It was an extremely entertaining movie. I shall rate it 4/5 with many ***s! heh...Johnny Depp is GOOD! It simply rakes up our childhood fantasies...and of course, the child-like nature in everyone of us. Willy Wonka was exceptionally charming, weirdly so, lunatically and creepily so. His expressions and the manner in which he portrays his personality and dark side of his past were enchanting.
Charlie and the 4 kids who received the 5 golden tickets to tour the chocolate factory were an amusing lot. As usual, Charlie is the likeable and intelligent kid. The other 4...it goes without saying. The effects were visually stimulating, such that we didn't have to rely much on our imagination and thinking. (That's why I think it's entertaining..heh) Viewers did not have to assume or guess anything, as most were narrated. The journey through the chocolate factory was definitely a fantasy. The end of the movie somehow had a surprising yet heart-warming little twist. Willy Wonka finally found true kinship in his heir's family and of course, his biological father. To add on to the "atmosphere", we even brought in pastries...ahh..mine was the zebra chocolate loaf..and some mango long bun... Thumbs up! (",)
Anyway.... Happy 20th Birthday to my brother! =)
